Project Magpie

Last summer I attended Heroescon in Charlotte, NC. And the chats I had with artists there and the panel I sat in on for my all time favorite graphic novel Blacksad really got me inspired and motivated to take a story Ive had swirling in the back of my mind for YEARS and actually do something with it. Its taken me eons and theres a fair bit of editing and revising left to do but I finally feel like I have enough written and mapped out to get this project off the development floor and start drawing out my first drafts. For now, while its still in its completely unseen by the outside world stages Im just going to call it "Project Magpie" because in all that time Ive been writing Ive never thought of a title. The hope... is that by sometime next fall I will have drafted out and started rendering the first few pages. Project Magpie went from being a plan for a webcomic, to a graphic novel, to a written novel and I think, with the encouragement of friends, Ive actually come back around to the idea of making a webcomic. A long sustained sequential plot driven.... webcomic.

Ive scrapped my old lagging computer, downloaded new script writing and panel mapping software, and set up a dual screen workstation all in ~preparation~ but really I need to just...... start drawing and stop fussing.

Thats always the hardest part, isnt it?

But a year ago I had nothing but ideas in my head and now I have 3/4 of a script and a plan. How exciting is that?

Project Magpie probably wont be featured on this website in any way. Ive made a few character sketches and posted them to tumblr and panel sketches always turn up on instagram, but I may create a whole new page specifically for my little (giant) pet project. I will be sure to post links everywhere when its ready. Or.... as ready as it will ever be.
